Remember Me

Remember Me is a film from writer Will Fetters and Director Allen Coulter. It stars Robert Pattinson, Emilie de Ravin, Pierce Brosnan, and Chris Cooper. The story focuses around Tyler, A young man who’s trying to find himself and cope with his brother’s death, meeting Ally through a twist of fate and the romance that blossoms as they help each other overcome the hardships in their lives.
The first time I heard about Remember Me I was reading the title off of a no parking sign near my job. Following my curiosity I looked up the information and found out that Pierce Brosnan, Robert Pattinson and Emilie de Ravin would be filming over here. Being a fan of Pierce and Emilie and knowing that my girlfriend was a big Rob Pattinson fan we had to visit the set. So despite not knowing much about the film I was able to watch a lot of the scenes near the promenade being done. Rob, Emilie and Pierce were extremely nice to the fans that were there and although I missed all the oppourtunities to meet them personally we got good pictures.
I missed the theatrical release and had to wait until the DVD came out to finally watch the movie. From what I heard it had mixed reviews and a lot of the critics said they had a problem with the “outrageous” ending. I thought that Remember Me was going to be a typical romance film especially with Rob Pattinson in the starring role. I, like others, was completely and utterly wrong. Remember Me is one of the deepest and most well written movies I have seen in a very long time. From the first five minutes until the very end I enjoyed every moment of this movie. It really makes you think about life and the life un-lived. This movie to me plays out like a
I also have to that say that the acting was great in this film, despite what critics were saying. I especially have more respect for Rob Pattinson because outside of the Twilight universe he’s actually a great actor.
I don’t want to get to into detail because every moment of this movie is part of the journey that your taken on with these characters. Though I think that I did not find the ending at all offensive or distasteful. It’s hard to explain it without giving the ending away but it’s something that many of us experienced and many of us will never forget. I feel like showing or talking about this event in film isn’t distasteful or offensive at all. I actually feel as if the idea of not talking about it is disrespectful.

Daybreakers.

Daybreakers is a new vampire movie written and directed by the Spierig Brothers. It takes place in the year 2019 and the world has been almost completely overrun by vampires. With the supply of human blood running out they are fighting for a way to survive. It star’s Ethan Hawke, Willem Dafoe, Jay Laga’aia, Sam Neil and Claudia Karvan.
Daybreakers brings back the vampire movie that actually kicks ass. Humans are on the brink of extinction and vampires are about to lose their one source of survival. If that isn’t enough there’s a third variable thrown in involving mutations. I don’t want to give too much away on that if you haven’t seen the movie though.
One thing I really enjoyed was the visual effects of the movie. Everything is clearly distinguished between light and dark. They also did a good job with making things look futuristic but not to sci-fi futuristic. The vampires eyes were also something that I found visually pleasing. There are certain scenes that make the eyes stand out and they look awesome.
As for the story, I think it’s a great take on the vampire mythology. The movie isn’t exactly after the new or old way of vampires but plays on the traditional vampire myth and adds its own flare to it. The actors also did a great job all around in making the story come to life. I found it surprising to see Willem Dafoe in this, but he did an awesome job. If you’re a huge vampire fan or not I’d say see this movie.

Cobble Hill Theater

Around me there are only three movies theaters I enjoy going to. There’s the conveniently located and moderately priced Pavilion, the overpriced and somewhat distant United 12, and the Cobble Hill which sits somewhat in between in both price and distance.
The Theater itself is a two-story building with different famous characters painted on certain parts and in the right stairwell there are famous actors painted in black and white up the walls. One thing I really enjoy is that they play mainstream movies and independent features as well. So sometimes you can catch really good indies.
They also have the best ticket prices of all three theaters. It’s $10 for adults and $7 for children and seniors and if you come before five o’clock Monday through Friday it’s $7 for everyone. Plus the 3D movies only cost $12 for adults and $9 for children which compared to other theaters in not bad. On saturday and Sunday if you get there before two o’clock then it’s also $7 for everyone. Not to mention that Tuesday and Thursday are bargain days and the tickets are $7 all day and night, except on special engagements and holidays.
The concession stand that they have is also very good when it comes to pricing. They have everything from popcorn to candy, sodas, even a slushie machine. Plus all the employees are kind and courteous to everyone.
The screening rooms are perfectly sized and my favorite are the ones are up the staircase to the right. There are bathrooms in the first floor lobby and on the second floor up the right side staircase.
Also located around the theater are some restaurants and such including a sushi joint, a pastry cafe and the very awesome chocolate Room.
The Cobble Hill is located at 265 Court street in Brooklyn,NY 11231. The telephone number is 718-596-9113 and they have a website which is www.cobblehilltheatre.com.

Fringe.

Although this is a T.V. series I thought it would be fit to talk about  on here because it’s creator J.J. Abrams is also working on movies. Although I intended the site to be strictly for movies, I may make exceptions for certain shows. Fringe is definitely one of those shows .

Fringe has a very X-Files feel to it but it brings its own flavor to the genre.  It combines strange scientific events and experiments with mystery and suspense.  The story follows Agent Olivia Dunham(Anna Torv) who under unforseen circumstances is forced to work with Dr. Walter Bishop(John Noble), an institutionalized scientist, against unexplained phenomenon.  Along with Dr. Bishop is his son Peter Bishop(Joshua Jackson) who’s become his father’s guardian outside of the institution.  All together they make up a small part of the FBI’s Fringe division, a sector that uses fringe science to solve the cases and follow “the pattern”.

Anna Torv comes across as a stubborn agent who’s always looking to go the extra distance on any case. John Noble and Joshua Jackson bring a lot of the comedy to the screen as they go back and forth with each other. John Nobles character Walter Bishop floats dangerously on the edge between reality and insanity. This of course brings many of the shows laughable moments. Joshua Jackson also has his moments being that his character is a bit of a smart ass. Together both actors bring a lot to the screen both individually and as a team. All together the cast does a great job with their parts and make it easy to get attached to these characters.

The shows fast paced and always keeps you guessing. I have to say it sucked me in just as fast as the first season of Lost. If you haven’t seen this show yet I suggest you go and rent it from Netflix or Blockbuster and see what your missing. If you’re an avid fan of J.J. Abrams and anything that may fall into the same genre as this show then just go out and buy the season because I think it’s worth it.

Fringe airs on the Fox network. It’s now in its second season, which will be ending in May, then it will be back in Fall 2010 for its third season.  It’s first season is now available on DVD and Blu-Ray.

It starts with a shiver.

I rented Pandorum the night it was released on Blu-Ray and somehow it went unwatched for weeks. In an attempt to return it to Blockbuster I was told that I now owned it. I figured no big deal and brought it home only for it to get lost in the shuffle again. Until finally a few nights ago when my girlfriend and I stumbled upon it.

Pandorum is directed by Christian Alvart (Antibodies) and stars Ben Foster ( 3:10 to Yuma, 30 Days of Night), Dennis Quaid (Vantage Point,Legion),Cam Gigandet ( Never Back Down, Twilight). Its a Sci-fi thriller based on a space ship that is five hundred miles away from Earth. Our main character Corporal Bower (Ben Foster) and Lt. Payton( Dennis Quaid) awake from hyper sleep to an empty ship, or so they think.

Upon waking up Corporal Bower has no idea whats going on and we figure out that prolonged hyper-sleep causes partial memory loss. After a short time of being awake Lt. Payton finally comes out of hyper-sleep and together they begin to try to piece together the puzzle and figure out where the crew disappeared to. Corporal Bower goes out on a mission to not only find any other shipmates but to also repair the ships core reactor.  After finding his way out of the room he starts his mission to the reactor meeting two other ship mates who have adapted for survival on the ship. Together they make their way to the reactor and unravel the story more and more as they go along.  The story in itself is pretty interesting. We have found a planet that is almost identical to Earth called Tanis and we are sending this ship there with the astronauts. I don’t want to give it all away but it evolves as the movie goes on and reviled that it is a thicker plot then you would think. Pandorum was supposed to be the first in a trilogy but due to the low box office numbers they may never come out.

Pandorum is  available on DVD and Blu-Ray.
